JAKARTA - The National Police or Polri has not declared the alleged taxation mafia Gayus Tambunan, when was a former low-ranking tax officer, to be suspect.
"The inspection deals with the violation. However, we have not named him suspect yet," Polri spokesman Insp.Gen. Edward Aritonang said at the Police Headquarter in Jakarta, Saturday (Jul.31).

Edward revealed his side remains to inquire taxation problems complained by companies which consulted to Gayus once.

"The detectives haven't learned exact number. Perhaps, they are more than four (firms)," he told reporters.

According to the interrogation, Gayus has not unveiled detail information of Rp74 billion assets save in his safety box. "He keeps saying forget about it. We cannot force him."

"The probe is still ongoing. If he's unable to testify, it will be part of crimes, anyway," he said.

As many as 40 companies were allegedly involved in taxation mafia organized by former low-ranking tax officer Gayus Tambunan.

A team of detectives tasked to investigate Gayus’ case-brokering have so far named nine suspects involved in the judicial mafia, including low-and mid-level police officers, a judge, Gayus’ lawyer, a tax officer and a businessman.

The lack of prosecutors in the suspect list has generated criticism of the police, saying they may have given “special treatment” to their “long-time partners”.
